Ponnambalam Academy of Dance and Music

“Ponn” meaning “gold” in Tamil and “Ambalam” meaning Temple, is the synonym of “Kanaka Sabha” in Sanskrit, the place where Lord Nataraja performed the “Ananda tandava” at the holy place of “Chidambaram” in Tamil Nadu.

Ponnabalam Academy of Dance & Music Trust is a non-profitable organisation formed by artists, art lovers & art critics with the sole aim of Propogating And Promoting of Indian Classical Art Forms such as Music And Dance . The organisation strives to achieve the same and in doing so extends full support to the preservation of the rich cultural heritage of India.

ponn1The “Golden Temple” of learning- Ponnambalam academy ,founded by Natya Visharada Guru.Smt. Ranjani Ganesan Ramesh, a leading Bharatanatyam exponent, and an alumnus of the world renowned Kalakshetra, Chennai is  a premiere institution widely recognized as one of the foremost school in India, offering training in Bharatanatyam & classical carnatic Music.

The academy has centres in Bangalore and Mumbai. The academy has trained over a 150 students. The teaching Faculty has eminent performer – teachers who provide able guidance to the deserving students while imparting training.

The Trust Conducts “Damaru Mahotsava” on Shivratri day Night long festival of dance & music., in Bangalore & Mumbai.It also conducts “Arudhra” an annual dance festival , which is into its eleventh year of unbroken celebration. Dancers & Musicians  of national and international repute from all over the country ang world perform.

“Utsav’ a festival of  Dance & Music is also organised annually in Mumbai to provide platforms for upcoming & amateur artists to present their talent.

“Chamber Music & Dance concerts” are also organised periodically once in a quarter, where deserving artists are invited to perform .

Padam Dance Company founded & led by Smt.Ranjani is the Concert Department of the Academy. The company is involved in thematic group, Solo, duet, trios’ productions and has to its credit over 150 shows performed at all major cultural centers, festivals across the country and abroad. Smt. Ranjani is the chief Choreographer, while the senior disciples trained at the academy are the dancers. Exceptionally talented dancers from other dance schools are also included for certain productions.

The academy would recommend promising, dedicated students to the department of culture, Govt. of India for awarding Senior Scholarship and CCRT Dept. for Junior Scholarship.

The Trust also supports deserving but financially deprived students with support by providing them scholarship to facilitate their training at the  Academy.

Bharatanatyam Classes

Training imparted in Kalakshetra style.

Classes are thrice a week for intermediate and advanced levels.

Twice a week  for beginners.

Dress Code: Female Students should wear the traditional practise sari costume.

Male students to wear the Dhoti practise costume.

Girls to wear Salwar Kameez Dupatta in the prescribed colors.

Music classes.

Dress code: Disciples  should come dressed in Salwar kameez dupatta/kurta pajama

Vocal Music

Training in Classical Carnatic music & Devotional music is imparted.

Classes held Twice a Week.

Violin – Instrumental

Training in Classical Carnatic music is imparted.

Classes held twice a week.

Samsriti Classes

Classes wherein Bhajans, Slokas are taught. This is an interactive class where the sessions include discussions on various topics with regard to the cultural heritage of Bharat. The sessions are open for adults and children.

Conducted once a week.
